DisinfoLab Internship


DisinfoLab is a student-run disinformation and technology think tank and tech incubator at William & Mary. We use a multidisciplinary approach to investigate emerging trends in disinformation and develop novel strategies to counter them. Previous research includes:


The lab also serves as a home for emerging tech startups in the areas of open source intelligence and  information integrity. One such product includes:



DisinfoLab seeks highly motivated, detail-oriented, and entrepreneurial team members for the semester. The internship is 10 hrs/week and runs from Monday, February 12th, to Friday, May 3rd. 


DisinfoLab: Disinformation Analyst

Responsibilities include:

  • Writing and editing reports, op-eds, and articles about emerging trends in disinformation

  • Working alongside a technical team to support analysis of online disinformation

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Coursework in international relations, public policy, government, or history

  • Previous research experience

DisinfoLab: Technical Disinformation Analyst

Responsibilities include:

  • Web scraping social media platforms and utilizing APIs to create novel datasets

  • Analyzing data and producing data visualizations for research reports

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 1 semester of Python or an equivalent programming language

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with packages like pandas, matplotlib, and other relevant data science libraries

DisinfoLab: Software Engineer

Responsibilities include:

  • Leveraging knowledge in computer vision, database management, web development and other relevant technical skills to develop new capabilities for DisinfoLab’s software startups

  • Attending regular standup meetings (2 times per week)

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in CSCI 301 (Software Dev) OR completed an equivalent internship/personal project

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of React or other similar front-end frameworks

  • Experience with training and deploying machine learning models
